Practice.Place People
Charles Higgins, MSW, Founder - practice.place
During his career as a nonprofit leader, Charles led organization transformation and strategic planning efforts that managed change and opened up new opportunities. Along the way, he developed a dedicated practice of Hatha yoga and Mindful Meditation that built his awareness of the fundamental elements of well-being, emotional intelligence and happiness. As an executive director of six nonprofit organizations during a 20-year career, he worked with and learned from dozens of staff, consultants, board and volunteer teams.
Practice.Place evolved out of a variety of experiences and influences. Charles started his career as a political, events and public relations consultant in San Francisco. He worked for two large event producers, several campaigns, and numerous clients using a variety of media and strategies. In 1998, he changed his trajectory and got his Master of Social Welfare from U.C. Berkeley. This shifted his focus to inner-city youth issues and social service organizations.
In 2016, he formed Practice.Place as a way to share his experience with other organizations. He served on numerous boards, including those of City Youth Now, the Booker T. Washington Community Service Center and the Prison Yoga Project. In 2021, Charles received his certification as an Integrative Wellness and Life Coach (www.iwacoaching.com). His time is split between San Francisco, where he coaches individuals and organizations, and Stinson Beach, where he leads restorative experiences for individuals and groups.
